One of the pious spots in Uttarakhand, Gaumukh is the main source of the pious Bhagirathi River. It is situated at a distance of 18 km from Gangotri and is the second-biggest glacier in India. 1:- Gaumukh National Park checkpoint is located at a distance of 2km from Gangotri. Your bags are scrutinized here.

2:- Chirbasa pitstop is located at a distance of 7 km from the checkpoint. Here you get Maggi, tea, etc. You also have a camping site near Chirbasa and this is the stopping point for the people who go for the Tapovan Trek.

3:- You, cover the initial 9 km in 2.5 hours. The next 5 km consume 2 to 3 hours. The last left 4 km also consumes almost 2 hours.

4:- Commence the trek at 6 am to move to Gaumukh and reach there on the same day. During the return, you can stay at Bhojbasa. If you go late, you can stay at Bhojbasa on the initial day itself and culminate the onward journey on the other day.

5:- If you want to finish the complete trek on the same day itself, leave Gangotri between 5:15 AM to 5:30 AM

6:- You can get a pony from the Gangotri Forest Checkpoint up to Bhojbasa for an amount of INR 1800 two-way. It generally goes up to INR 2500 because of the extra charges due to luggage. 7-There is a provision for 150 travelers and you need an advanced permit for the District forest officer, Uttarkashi. You will have to get the permission slip stamped at Uttarkashi or Gangotri some days before confirmation for the trip. Pay INR 150 as you reach the entry gate of the forest office at Gangotri.

7:- You have the option to book at Garhwal Mandal Guest House located at Bhojbasa. The guest house comprises 32 beds in a room and you can book it online. You also have the choice to book 16 beds in tents. This cost is Rs 350/night. You have two toilets for the facility.

8:- You, do not have electricity in Bhojbasa. The GMVN guest house comprises a generator that operates in the evening for one and a half hours.

9:- You have the facility of the canteen at GMVN guest house. You have the availability of a vegetarian meal.

10:- At Bhojbasa, there is an ashram with a mattress facility for sleeping on the floor. The per night cost is Rs 350.

11:- You have a guided facility from Gangotri. You have to pay for this.

12:- You, do not have network connectivity after crossing 3km of the trek.

13:- You can carry clothes that provide warmth, a raincoat as well as an oxygen cylinder.
