In modern development, Amarnath Yatra has been suspended temporarily due to the inclement climate. Reportedly, no pilgrims can be allowed to transport closer to the revered cave from both Pahalgam and Baltal camps.

For the record, those using the shorter Baltal path, are required to trek 14 km to attain the cave shrine, even as those opting for the longer traditional Pahalgam path, are required to trek 48 km for 4 days to reach the cave shrine.

Officials added that the authorities suspended the yatra due to heavy rains, and added that it will resume only after the climate improves.

Earlier, the yatra turned stopped after heavy rainfall on July 5, which eventually led to a huge cloudburst on July 8. It resulted in 16 humans losing their lives and over 30 missing. However, the yatra was then resumed thru the Pahalgam path thru the Baltal path.
