Good news from Arunachal Pradesh! The Hollongi Airport, also called Donyi Polo Airport, in Itanagar is all set for operations. Indigo Airlines also successfully conducted a test landing on Tuesday. The airport, which will be inaugurated soon, is now ready for its first flight.

The news was shared by Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He took to Twitter and tweeted:

“Glad to share @IndiGo6E flight made a success check landing at Donyi Polo airport, Itanagar today. A milestone moment as we’re making every possible attempt to make sure ease of tour in our state. Gratitude to all for contributing their bit to improve people’s ease of life!”

It was in 2019 that the foundation stone for the airport was laid. Now that the airport is ready for operations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the airport.

The new airport is situated some 15 km from the town and will serve the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar.

A look at a few vital facts about Donyi Polo Airport:

1) The airport is located in Hollongi Village, which is about 15 km from Itanagar.

2) The airport is constructed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a price of INR 645 crore (estimated).

3) As of now, the airport will feature a 500-meter runway expansion to accommodate A-321 planes in the coming time.

4) The terminal structure of the airport is unfolded over 4100 sq m.

5) During height seasons, the airport will be able to accommodate 200 passengers.

6) There will be 8 check-in counters for the convenience of passengers.
