This month, do you need an excuse to go to Sikkim? The Tibetan New Year's Losar Festival is a wonderful chance to revel in the grandeur of Sikkim's culture, history, and geography. The popular religious event, which marks the Tibetan New Year, will be celebrated from February 21–27.

Sikkim's biggest festival, Losar, brings people together to enjoy local customs, culture, delicious food, and overall good times even while seeing religious performances.

The event is also referred to as Gyalpo Lossar in Sikkim. The festival's most important locations are monasteries, and Pemayangtse Monastery's celebration is unparalleled. The festival at the monastery starts with charm, the lamas' traditional dance performance.

You may not be aware that the Losar festival not only ushers in the Tibetan new year but also the harvest. Farmers in particular are honored for their laborious efforts, and prayers are made to the local gods in hopes of a bountiful crop.

Rumtek Monastery and Phodong Monastery are the locations of the main festivities. Here, prayers are said, and afterward, there is a cultural spectacle. You shouldn't miss the Cham dance (masked lama dance) or any other folk dance or music type.

Go local if you are in Sikkim during Losar. Stay close to the neighborhood and observe how everyone pitches in to make the event successful. It's an experience you won't soon forget, with people dressed to the nines and unending buckets of the traditional Tsampa and other goodies being prepared.
